Competition Flying site

The flying site, is the Bernese Oberland, with approximately size of 100 x 70 Km. The main take off is First above Grindelwald. There are three different landing fields, Grindelwald, Interlaken and Spiez which provide the necessary flexibility and change. This would make the world cup in Grindelwald even more attractive.

Date

The dates of the competition guarantee that the pre-alpine as well as the alpine country site can be flown. The cross country flights made in this period of the year prove this impressionably as follows:

OLC flights >100km in Mai/June in 2004/05/06

Flying Conditions

Flying in the Bernese Oberland is known for its diversity. It comprises of the high Alps as well as the pre-alps, and reaches to the hills of the Bernese middle-land. The topography is spectacular. Wheatear it is the wind-saved valley basin of Grindelwald, the long mountain ridge of the Niesen or the small valley system of Gstaad. Paragliding World-Cups were already organised in Gstaad, Grindelwald and in the Simmental; Swiss Championships in Grindelwald, Gstaad, Interlaken and in the Lenk. There is a main valley wind system. The wind comes from Thoune and spreads out to the valleys. The Bernese Oberland is mainly a region with little wind. Only when there is strong west wind or Föhn (strong south wind which sweeps over the Alps) there can’t be flown.
